Ingredients
- 14 slices Texas toast
- 8 eggs
- 2½ c. half & half
- ¾ c. sugar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1½ tsp. cinnamon
- Topping:
- ½ c. flour
- ½ c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. salt
- ½ c. cold butter
- fresh berries
Directions
- Cube Texas toast and put in a 9″ x 13″ buttered casserole.
- Mix eggs, half & half, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon and pour over Texas toast.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- In morning:
- Bring to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.
- Cut in cubed cold butter to form crumb topping.
- Distribute fresh berries on top of French toast and then top the berries with the crumb mixture.
- Do not let topping come to room temperature; you want the butter to still be cold when put in oven.
- Bake at 350 °F. for 50 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean.
- Serve with warm pure maple syrup.
