Another show has come and gone.  Each year in January, usually the first full week, people come from all over to Harrisburg to visit the nation’s largest indoor agricultural event.  Over 8 days there are competitions and demonstrations, judging of livestock and PA food & products, displays of the latest farming equipment and plentiful wonderful Farm Show food.  You do not have to be a farmer to enjoy the Farm Show.  There is something for everyone.  There are cooking demonstrations, wine tasting, square dancing, and a championship rodeo and did I mention mouth-watering food.  You will get to see the best PA hay, vegetables, Christmas trees, livestock and over 1000 birds of all different types.

I enjoy the rabbits and birds the most and watching the baby chicks hatch. And don’t miss the beautiful work of art, the butter sculpture. There are a myriad of educational opportunities, as well. Just to give a few possibilities- in addition to the cooking demonstrations, you can learn all about beekeeping from beekeepers, learn all about PA owls from Shavers Creek Environmental Center and all you ever wanted to know about maple syrup production.

If you are interested in watching competitions the sheep to shawl contest is a great one to watch.  There are tractor pulls and a miniature horse pull, oh and cow patty bingo!  This year there was even a polo demonstration.  There is just too much to mention. So, if you missed the Farm Show this year, don’t forget to put it on your calendar for next year.
