3 lb. tart apples 2 T. lemon juice 1/2 C. brown sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/3 C. all-purpose flour 1/3 C. sugar 1/3 C. rolled oats 4 T. cold butter 1/2 C. chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Peel, core, and chop apples; toss in bowl with lemon juice. In separate bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; stir into apples and set aside. In another bowl, combine flour, sugar and oats. Cut butter into flour until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Butter a 10x10" dish and spread apples in bottom, then sprinkle with crumbs. Bake 375F for 30-45 minutes till browned. Serve warm.
