Ingredients

1 3/4 C. flour
1 T. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
6 T. butter, chilled and in pieces
1/2 C. sugar
3/4 C. cream
6 C. any fruit
Sugar for sweetening
Dash of each: cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg
Juice of 1 lemon
Directions

Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl; stir with a fork to blend. Put the pieces of chilled butter into the flour mixture and rub quickly with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the sugar and slightly blend. Using a fork, slowly stir in the cream, until roughly mixed. Gather the dough into a shaggy mass and knead 5 to 6 times; set aside. If dough is loose and moist, that is ok, just do not knead. Preheat the oven to 375F. Butter a rectangular or oval baking dish, 9x13" would suit just fine. Sweeten the fruit and add cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg; then lemon to the mixture. Place in prepared pan and top with dough mixture. Spread dough all over the pan to cover fruit. Bake for about 40 to 50 minutes, until lightly browned and a toothpick inserted in the crust comes out clean.
