Preheat oven to 325F. Cream butter and vanilla until smooth. In a large bowl, combine butter mixture with flour, sugar, water and salt. Stir in pecans. Take small chunks of cookie dough and roll between your palms into crescent shapes, using flour as needed. Each cookie should be about 1 inch wide and 2 inches in length. Set the cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until bottoms begin to turn golden. Cool for 5 minutes, then roll in powdered sugar.
